Case Study: Sellafield

There are certain industries that require a bespoke approach to lifting and moving requirements, none more so than nuclear waste management. Four years ago, we were approached by Sellafield Ltd, the company responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing, nuclear waste management and fuel manufacturing activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority to provide a series of crane and radio control systems for their site in Cumbria.

One particular project was to design and install a crane system to manage and move fuel handlers under water. Critical to this process was the accuracy and speed in which the fuel systems move so as not to create waves or eddies underwater.

Tasked with this brief, our team of crane specialists have designed and installed a bespoke system integrating our Flex Radio Control System that has delivered a materials handling solution that is entirely fit for purpose.
